Tell Senators to Stand Firm Against Extremist Judicial Nominees
Two dozen national civil and human rights, environmental, women's, health, religious, seniors, and disability rights organizations have joined forces to create an ad that will shine a bright light on the extremist views of nine of President Bush's judicial nominees (Click here to read the news release). Even though the Constitution enshrines the principle of an independent judicial system, the nominees featured in the ad clearly oppose laws that guarantee the rights of all Americans including women, people with disabilities, and gays and lesbians. Instead of nominating moderate judges who are pledged to upholding equal rights for all, President Bush has chosen the most ideologically rigid group of judges ever to the federal bench.

Oppose Repressive Measures Promoted as “Reform”
Attorney General Ashcroft and his allies in Congress are using the 9/11 Commission report as cover for new government powers that would infringe on the rights of Americans and foreign guests. The new vehicle for their ill-advised efforts -- a new bill in the House of Representatives -- would likely create what amounts to a national identification card, drastically curtail basic fairness in the nation’s immigration system and expand on the PATRIOT Act.

Protect Arizona Student Voting Rights
Arizona students have the right to register to vote in their college community, but recent actions by election officials in Pima County threaten to disenfranchise student voters. During a voter registration drive at the University of Arizona, a local Fox News reporter (KSMB-TV’s Fox 11) accused the students of committing an “unintentional felony” by registering out-of-state students. Even more startlingly, a Pima County election official fanned the flames of student voter intimidation by tacitly accepting this claim, even suggesting that new technology may allow the state to prosecute out-of-state student voters.
